The past seven and a half months has been a whirlwind to say the least. It is safe to say that many of us never imagined we would be living through a time such as this. Even in my discussions with my elders of the generations before me, the consensus has been the same. I have never spent this much time watching the news in my entire life! But here we are. At this very moment in time as a nation we are faced with a crisis. We have been faced with a global pandemic that has swept across every state in our country and has changed the look of every family. We have lost love ones, some of recovered from Covid-19, we have lost businesses, jobs, marriages, every life has been touched. We have all been changed. The most challenging dilemma facing us today is this very statement, "Will we stand together as one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all?" This statement apart of our foundational principles as a nation. This statement has been transformed in action over the years as we have faced racial equality, gender equality, and cultural bias within our own nation. Voting hasn't always been fair, it hasn't always been for all, it is a right that was fought for that is being challenged again by the very thought of using fear to control the masses. This isn't a time where we tell each other not to get political. This is a time where the very values and beliefs that we live by in our daily lives must reflect our faith in the leaders that we choose to carry out those same values and beliefs that we have from the local level to the highest office in the land. Future generations who will come behind us we must consider the life they will be subject to, will be based on the very acts that we choose to make as we decide as a nation who our future leaders will be. I will admit, I have never been so in tune to the affairs of my nation until March 24th, 2020.
So I encourage you today, let your voice be heard. Let your hearts not be troubled. Let your children's children see you as a part of a nation that stood up for truth and love as one nation under God.
